Type Updates #1: Summer Roundup
Renan Rosatti · 6 November 2026 · 2 min read
Hi,
Summer is officially over in Berlin, and in order to fight the upcoming winter blues, it’s time to finally get the first edition of this newsletter out, looking back at what happened in the warm and sunny months of 2026.
At the end of July, I got the chance to contribute to Solitype with the heaviest style of Rocket, one of my work-in-progress typefaces. Along with great fonts by four other type designers, this Solitype round was able to raise €1305 for the Afghan Volunteer Women’s Association.

Since then, I’ve been able to spend more time on the typeface and am slowly working my way through the lighter weights. You’ll see more of Rocket in the near future. Meanwhile, send me an email if you’d like an early access trial!
In August, Mara Nolze and I released Steglitz v0.1 on Future Fonts. I have had this revival of Belwe Antiqua sitting in a drawer since 2020, and after a while only being used by a few friends and Dispatches Magazine, I’m happy the first Text styles are finally out in the world.
We have been working on more Text and Display styles, and v0.2 is just around the corner. If you like it, get a license (including all future updates) before the price increases with the next update.

This summer, Dinamo released Solar Condensed and Display Condensed, which I designed as an extension to the original ABC Solar. I’m looking forward to seeing the new styles in use!

I have also worked as a font engineer on a number of custom and retail typefaces, including the beautiful Holger by Otis Verhoeve, published by WiseType, the ever-growing Tonka superfamily by Céline Hurka and Huw Williams, and a bunch of others I can’t mention yet 🤫
Other things are cooking for the colder months ahead: the Bold styles of Steglitz Text, lighter weights and the first italic attempts for Rocket (really not sure about these yet), and the first sketches for another serif typeface.
Here’s a sneak peek of what is on my desk at the moment, alongside a photo of the absolute highlight of my summer: the total solar eclipse, which I was lucky enough to see in Spain in August.

That’s all for now. The next updates will hopefully come a bit more often and with fresher news, instead of “what you missed over the last six months”. Thanks for subscribing, and until next time!
